Welcome Ride Review - 9/20/08 Print E-mail
group

Seventeen riders came for the start the Welcome Ride, September 20, 2008, on a weather-perfect day. After a few miles Luke joined us on the road making it 18. At Churubusco the Welcome Ride group decided to go even longer than their scheduled long route. So today’s ride was sort of backward from the usual format, in that the faster group rode the 50-mile route and the Welcome Ride group did the 67-mile tour. Oops, I mean 73 miles, since the leader missed a turn on 650E.

It was mostly sunny with a very slight NW wind. Everyone stayed together until we reached Busco, then the main group took off.

There were seven of us doing the Welcome Ride, Cindy W, Keith, Dan, Corky, Louis, Lynette and me. Everyone stayed in a group until we reached Wolf Lake where Corky and Louis headed north to West Noble High School to watch Corky’s son run in a track meet.

We stopped at Wolf Lake to take on fuel and a short rest which included a couple good road stories. Coming back into Churubusco, I missed the turn on 650E so we added 6 miles to the tour, much to Lynette’s surprise.

The Welcome Riders did a fantastic ride, averaging 16.6 for the trip. I want to congratulate Lynette for sticking with us. This was her longest ride ever. Even though her legs were a little sore toward the end, she kept her smile for the entire tour. Great job Lynette! Lynette is shown below, after the ride, standing next to her bike with a big smile.

Thanks to everyone who joined us today, it was a great, fun-filled, safe tour.
