September Touring Notes
Written by Steve Pequignot

September is my favorite time of the year in Indiana. A little cooler weather, but still warm enough for short sleeves. This is a great combination for enjoyable cycling. On Saturday, September 11, we will have our Century Tour circling Allen County. The tour will feature a 100-mile route starting and finishing at Huntertown Elementary School. There will be several start times. The first group will start at 8:30 AM. This group will be for riders with a 15 to 17 mph pace. The second group will start at 9:00 AM. This group will be for riders with a pace 18 mph and above.

The tour will also feature a 50 and 63 mile (metric century) route. These two routes begin and end at the Woodburn, Indiana Park. Both the 50 and 63 mile riders will start at 10:30 AM. The 100-mile riders will meet the 50 and 63 mile riders at Woodburn Park about 10:30. From there riders will take state line road south to Monroeville, then on to Hoagland where lunch will be ready at Three Kings Restaurant. After a refreshing lunch, the 100-mile riders will continue westward to the county line then north to Huntertown. The 63-mile riders will do a 13-mile loop at Hoagland and then head back to Woodburn. The 50-mile riders will ride back to Woodburn from Hoagland.

If you like flat roads you should enjoy the 50 and 63 mile routes. These routes are located in one of the flattest parts of the state. If you like a few hills, the 100-mile route is for you. There are some rollers in the first 10 miles and a few larger hills after the 75-mile point in the tour.

The lunch at Three Kings is free to all 3RVS members. We wanted to make this a volunteer-free ride so no one has any work duties and everyone can go out and enjoy the ride at their own pace. What ever your pace, lunch will be waiting for you at Three Kings from 11:30 AM. until 1:30 PM.  Route maps will be provided at the starts in Huntertown and Woodburn.

We appreciate the help of all the volunteers during our many events this season. The free lunch is just a small token to thank our members and officers for the successful season we have enjoyed this year.

I hope to see all of you on the road.
