CITY CELEBRATES NATIONAL BIKE MONTH IN MAY
Activities include trail rides, Bike to Work Week, art shows & more

Fort Wayne, Ind. - The City of Fort Wayne is teaming up with Bike Fort Wayne to host a full month of activities in honor of National Bike Month

Created by the League of American Bicyclists, National Bike Month is designed to help raise awareness about the benefits of bicycling and the many reasons for engaging in the activity. Nationwide, cyclists ride their bikes to save money or time, to preserve health or the environment, to explore their community or to adopt an alternate means of transportation
The month long celebration includes National Bike to School Day on Wednesday, May 9; National Bike to Work Week, from May 14 thru May 18 and National Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 18

On May 1, the City of Fort Wayne also kicked off its 3m annual series of free community bike rides along the 68 miles of the Fort Wayne Trail Network Trek the Trails, which runs from May though September, features a series of 22 Tuesday evening rides, four Saturday rides and a stargazing nighttime bike ride on Oct. 2

On Wednesday, May 16, at 7 PM, there will be World Wide Ride of Silence to honor those killed or injured while cycling. The local observance will begin at Freimann Square and will emphasize the importance motorists sharing the road with cyclists

On Sunday, May 20, at 305 p.m, residents are invited to Bike to the Ballpark to see the TinCaps take on the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Parkview Field Free bike parking is available

It's not too late to Join the Fort Wayne Bike Commuter Challenge! Register as an individual or as part of a team and log your miles and trips daily for the month of May. Only trips made for utilitarian purposes will count. The type of rides counted include. bike rides to work, for errands or if you ride your bike to a club ride or bike
event. We aren't counting mileage for fitness-only rides. At the end of the month, the numbers will be tallied and the winning team and individual will have bragging rights in the community It's okay to sign up late. Just make sure that you sign up and start riding! Save money, reduce pollution, ease traffic congestion and get healthy all at the same time, while helping your team or yourself win the Fort Wayne Bike Commuter
