Title: 2011 Mileage-What is yours?
Post by: upright jeff on November 15, 2011, 09:36:34 PM
Seems like this time of year there is nothing ever on the Forum.  I visit other bike club websites and many have a "mileage" thread, some even list mileages in their newsletter.  Having a degree/career in accounting, I find numbers very interesting.  Many cyclists are unconcerned with miles and I can understand that.  But I often wonder how the many miles are achieved by the many riders that are so much stronger than myself.

So feel free to post your 2011 mileage if you so desire............

Last Saturday, I rode between the rain clouds to pass 5,000 miles for the year - a personal best.  Now I can get out the trainer and stay warm & dry.

4,580 so far and I probably won't get any more, but easily a personal best for me!

Mike, be sure to post your Dec 31 total!

Way to go Angel, Patrick & Denny.

Me, I'm done for the year....7027 miles.  It's gonna be a LONG winter.

Question....Do miles on the trainer count?  I have never ridden a trainer, but I am going to participate in the spin class at Summit City in Jan and Feb.  Hey, they are miles on the bike right?

Count as miles riding a bike on the road? Hardly ;)

I have only a few days left but I think I can put a few more miles.

Added some more miles today. It was warmer than some Hilly Hundred rides I've been on.

I haven't had a computer on a bike for over 5 or 6 years.  Most of the time I go by the duration of the last ride, how I feel, or simply how much time is available.  Right now I'm training for the 24 Hours of Old Pueblo in AZ on Feb 19, I try to get an hour on the rollers before work on the fixed gear (like your own little spin class) and maybe another longer session in the evening depending on the moods of my pregnant wife and 2.5 year old (thanks to both for any time possible).  Mileage seems like an arbitrary measure of my enjoyment and time on the bike.

I managed to finish off December with a flurry of small rides up to New Year's eve.  Final 2011 tally:  5,180 miles.  The weather has also granted me the opportunity to ride a few times in the first 10 days of January.  I didn't let the odometer rest at zero for too long - several thousand miles to go.

"To each his own."  A good saying.

I rode casually for years without a computer.  Finally got one and was surprised how fast the miles added up.  Measuring and logging mileage, avg speed, calories, etc. has helped make me a much better cyclist.  I like setting and aspiring to achieve goals, in my bicycling and life overall.  Every day there is a to do list on my desk.  Classic type A, senility or a combination I suppose.  Oh well, at least I don't have to take BP medication....yet.

Let's hope for an early spring in 2012.

Somewhere between 2100-2300 miles. I upgraded my phone and lost my cyclemeter data in November. However, I have the screen shot of hitting the 2000 mark in October.
