I heard about an unannounced  bees ride too. It would be good, if true, to post that here.

Another day of exploring lake country, southern Allen county. Wonder if Upright Jeff ran into lots of high water on the other side of 24, east of Roanoke. Steve, Ralph and I headed north and east through town, across 114 to 800 to avoid the flooding.

While you're struggling with the wind, I'll be struggling at St. Pat's at the Blessing of the Bikes. Then I'll be struggling at Beamers ;) But I should be there for the grand opening ride. Have a good ride my friend!

Touring / Official First Ride of 2013
« on: April 03, 2013, 02:03:09 PM »
Sunday, April 7th will start the yearly riding season with our annual Official First Ride of the Year. The ride will start at 12PM and leave from Leo High School off HWY 1. The route choices will be 20 or 40 miles.

This tour offers a number of groups of various speeds and experiences. Choose one that works best for your ability, if it get too difficult slow down and wait for the next group. There will be ride leaders and they will be announced at the start of the ride.

The first part of the route will head west to Huntertown where you will be able to take a few minute rest before heading back to Leo.

If you are up for a challenge continue to Churubusco where not only will the miles increase but the pace is likely too also.

Bring water and snacks to have on your ride. On all 3RVS rides - helmets are required.

I think we had eight riders on Good Friday's ride. The weather was very good, and a nice tailwind on the return. Our group headed out to Deer Park for some post ride carbo-reloading and story swapping. Question: what the heck was with that hill at the railroad crossing???

I'm probably going out early today for a short bike ride, then get the motorcycle out for the afternoon. Weather depending, may show up for Sunday's last show 'n  go for the 2012-2013 season.

Nice day and a nice ride... had a good group of 10-12 riders. Started out cool but the temperature "warmed up" nicely by the end.

Transportation agencies across the country are about to miss an important opportunity to improve non-motorized traffic safety and encourage healthy and active transportation options.

The US Department of Transportation is required by the new transportation law to establish national safety goals and performance measures to guide the states. Right now, they are NOT proposing any separate national goals or performance measures to improve the safety of bicyclists and/or pedestrians. We cannot let this happen – these measures will be used to guide traffic safety policy and funding at the national and state level for years to come

If this is allowed to happen, there will be no national target to improve the safety of cycling or walking; there will be no measures established to track or monitor pedestrian and bicyclist safety or collect data related to these areas; and there will be no incentive, guidance or leadership given to state and local agencies to tackle this important piece of overall traffic safety policy. Without a specific performance measure to focus on nonmotorized safety, bicyclists and pedestrians will remain firmly in the blindspot of traffic safety.

Funding for overall highway safety programs was almost doubled in MAP-21. Even though bicyclists and pedestrians now account for almost 16% of all traffic fatalities in the US, states are spending less than 0.5% of their safety funds to solve this problem. This is exactly the time to establish meaningful national goals and performance measures to tackle bicyclist and pedestrian safety as part of an overall, comprehensive and multi-modal traffic safety program.

That’s why we have written this letter to Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood asking him to include specific national goals and performance measures for bicyclist and pedestrian safety. We urge you to add your voice to our request.

Latest News / warm enough, maybe then there's the rain
« on: January 28, 2013, 12:52:49 PM »
It's going to be more than warm enough to ride today and Tuesday, but there's rain in the forecast both days. Is anyone else riding (not counting commuting)?
